Let us assume that you have chosen the user name XXX.
At top of all pages you will find a link labelled XXX, leading to the User page of XXX.
Click that link and write a few words about yourself - such as your full name, affiliation and possibly e-mail address (see the example of hro User:Hro).
At the end of the page, paste the text [[Category:Contributors]] (you can copy it from here). If you do so, your user name will appear on a special page listing Contributors
